How We Price Your Gold
Our price starts with the live international gold price, converted to rand per gram. We then adjust for purity, because only part of a jewellery piece is pure gold:
- 24ct is 99.9% gold
- 22ct is 91.6% gold
- 18ct is 75% gold
- 14ct is 58.5% gold
- 9ct is 37.5% gold
We test purity with a Niton XL2 XRF analyser, which reads the metal content in seconds without scratching, filing or using acid on your piece. Our offer is a percentage of the gold’s melt value, and we will show you the calculation if you ask. Today’s rates are on our price list page, updated daily.
Diamonds are assessed against GIA or EGL certificates where available. Luxury watches are valued on brand, model, condition, papers and current resale demand.
Registered and Accountable
We operate within South Africa’s laws for buying precious metals and second-hand goods. You can verify each of these:
- Licensed second-hand goods dealer under the Second-Hand Goods Act. SAPS registration number: 25/13/2/09/2022.
- FICA compliant: we verify every seller’s ID and address. This protects you and keeps stolen goods out of the system.
- Member of the Jewellery Council of South Africa.

Safe and Private
- Private valuation: private room and appointment-only consultations available at all our branches.
- Secure parking at all our branches. Sandton has boomed, covered basement parking in Sinosteel Plaza. Alberton has secure, boomed open parking used by the Alberton Home Affairs office. In Cape Town, a monitored car park directly across from our office building is manned by the Green Point Community Policing Forum, and you can see your car while seated in our office. In Springs, parking is right next to the shop and monitored by our own CCTV cameras.

Your jewellery stays exactly as it is
We test with a Niton XL2 XRF analyser, which reads the metal content in seconds using X-rays. We never scratch, file, cut, melt or pour acid on your jewellery. If you decide not to sell, it leaves exactly as it came in.
Weighed on government-verified scales
We only use SARTORIUS & TANITA scales.
Every gram is weighed on a trade-approved scale verified under the Legal Metrology Act, which sets the standard for any scale used to calculate payment. Verification checks that the scale reads accurately and carries a verification mark to show it passed.
The scale display always faces you, and we zero it in front of you before weighing. Ask to see the certificate at any branch.
How we handle your ID and personal information
Many sellers are nervous about handing over their ID. Here is exactly what happens to it, in plain language.
Why we ask for it. South Africa’s Second-Hand Goods Act requires every registered dealer to record the seller’s full name, address and identity document before buying an item. This helps the police trace stolen goods and protects honest sellers. We cannot complete a purchase without it.
What we keep. A copy of your ID or passport, your proof of address and a record of the items you sold to us. We keep these as both digital and physical copies.
How long we keep it. At least five years, as the Second-Hand Goods Act requires. After that, records are no longer needed for this purpose.
Who can see it. Your records are used only to meet our legal obligations. We do not sell or share them, except where the law requires us to provide them to the South African Police Service or another regulator.
