How We Evaluate 14ct Gold Jewellery

1

Check for Hallmarks

We inspect for 14ct or 585 marks. If no stamp is visible, we verify purity with non-destructive testing, such as XRF testing.

2

Weigh and Categorise

Once purity is confirmed, we weigh your gold on calibrated digital scales and categorise it as 14ct for an accurate valuation.

3

Market-Based Offer

We calculate a transparent offer using current market prices and your internal 14ct rate, then pay out fast in person or via insured courier.

Calculation: payout = grams × R 1,200.

What is 14ct gold and how is it stamped?

14ct gold is 58.5 percent pure gold and is commonly stamped 585 under the millesimal fineness system.

How your 14ct quote is calculated

We confirm purity and fineness, weigh on calibrated digital scales, then provide a transparent, market-based offer. If no stamp is visible, non-destructive testing verifies fineness. There is no obligation to sell.

Brief history of hallmarking and the 14ct “585” mark

Hallmarking began in London in 1300 when King Edward I required gold and silver wares to be assayed and marked with the leopard’s head to protect buyers. The Goldsmiths’ Company has applied hallmarks since then through the London Assay Office.

Modern hallmarks use millesimal fineness numbers. For gold the Convention recognises 375, 585, 750, 916 and 999, so “585” indicates 58.5 percent gold content, which corresponds to 14 carat.
